Happy Wednesday. Time for the rankings.
There are a handful of questionable is the running back section. Some guys that might be playing or might be sitting out. Make sure you pay close attention from now until Sunday to see who will be ruled out. Questionable running backs include Darren McFadden, Peyton Hillis, Mark Ingram, Joseph Addai, Willis McGahee, Mike Tolbert and Daniel Thomas. If any of these starters are unable to play, bump their backups accordingly. (Backups are, respectively, Michael Bush, Chris Ogbonnaya, Sproles and Thomas, Carter and Brown, Moreno and Ball, Jacob Hester, Reggie Bush.)
I left Andre Johnson off of my Wide Receiver rankings. I really doubt that he will play. If he does suit up though, he proved to us last year that he can still be a terror when injured, so I'd throw him somewhere among the top guys and drop Kevin Walter down to the low 30s and Jacoby Jones off the board.
As I added to my last post, I have a few SDS choices. Lots of my top predictions are vastly unowned, so jump on them when you can.
And as always, if you've got questions, now it the time to start asking. Trade advice, ranking questions, start'em sit'em, predictions, anything you've got.
Let's go!

Hey GHL,
ReplyDeleteJust a quick question on who to start for flex (espn standard scoring) i plan on using Steven Jackson and Blount for my two RBs and AJ green and Larry Fitz for my 2 WRs. For my flex i can use Torain, CJ2K, Stevie Johnson, or Deion Branch, I would normally use Stevie but Revis island worries me a bit. Anyways let me know what you think. Thanks,
Kyle
Torain has a hell of a matchup this week, but it's easy to assume that he will get most of the work there. CJ2K has done nothing at all. Hard to imagine he will start this week against another good run defense.
ReplyDeleteAs you said, Johnson has a rough matchup against Revis. He still has upside has he is having a very good season, but the Bills have other weapons that might be better suited for this matchup.
Branch has quietly had a pretty solid year. Better numbers than anyone expected out of him. I would like to see the yardage and targets higher, which means that the only time you’ll really get points out of him is when he scores. But he has been doing that pretty solidly this year.
All four are major gambles, but Branch has the cleanest matchup here. I’d roll with him and hope he can make the end zone again.
Whatsup man, here for my weekly talk. Despite weekly struggles at WR and coping with Chris Johnson, I'm 5-3 and atop my division in my 14 team league on the strengths of Cam Newton, FJax and a weak schedule.
ReplyDeleteBare with me now..
My roster looks like this:
QB - Cam
WR - Austin, Manningham, Julio Jones
RB - FJax, CJ
TE - Aaron Hernandez
Bench:
Freeman, Bradford
Little, Demaryius Thomas
Maurice Morris, Ringer
Pettigrew
Going forward, I'm pretty confident that my WRs are all due for strong finishes. But like many others, my problem likes with CJ: I have no intention of dropping him, but what value do you think I may be able to seek out/ask for if I package him with any of my WRs or TEs? I've been stubborn with him thus far and luckily Jackson is giving me the production I expected from my first round pick. I'd obviously like to tighten up my RB2 spot for the playoff run.
One owner has McCoy and Turner but is starting Winslow at TE. Would it be fair (or even smart on my half) to offer CJ + AH/BP for - most likely - Turner? What about offering CJ for Sproles straight up? Or should I stay put and hope he uses all this criticism as fuel for a strong second half?
Thanks!
heres my lineup:
ReplyDeleteqbs (1): stafford (bye) fitzpatrick, and i picked up cassel and am starting him
rbs(2): AP (bye) CJ.02K, Hillis, Sproles, Moreno, Reggie Bush (might drop him)
Wrs: Calvin (bye) Andre J, julio, harvin, and a. brown
Te: vernon
Def: Packers and im picking up Bengals, dropping bush
K: Cundiff
So, first, who would you go with at each position? Second, should i pick up bengals d and drop bush? Third, any trade suggestions (CJ2K, Hillis)? Thanks a lot, and i love the site!
I lost out on picking up the Raider D this week. I already have the Bengals D from last week and I also put in a bid for the Bills D. You really think the Bengals D is that much better of an option this week than Buffalo playing the NYJ? I guess I kinda thought the same way with the NYJ seem to be getting back to the ground n pound and they're off the bye. Also, I have played Aaron Hernandez over Finley the past cpl of weeks and it has worked out nice as Hernandez seems to get the TDs. Finley has had one good week that is currently carrying him to his top 10 ranking. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteGHL! Great advice and love the site bro. Here's my question:
ReplyDeletemy lineup is: qb-Romo
rb-foster
rb-forte
rb/wr- ??
wr- nicks
wr- wallace
te- gronk
d- texans (steelers on bench for this week)
1- who should i fill my flex w/? My bench is mathews, (hurt) manningham, DHB, b.jacobs, j.ringer (just picked him up)
2- what should i do w/ mathews, i know he's hurt but i feel like he's getting less productive than at the start of the season.
3- was ringer a good pickup?
I've got quite the few weeks coming up, but injury has finally struck. I'm sitting pretty atop the league at 7-1, and i've won 7 straight. Its my first time doing fantasy, so i credit this sight with my record. But i think this week has my toughest choices to be made. So hopefully you guys can help me continue on to 8-1.
ReplyDeleteQB-Rivers or Big Ben. Ben has the rough matchup, but rivers has been playing like crap. I can only hope he turns it on with mathews out and having to keep up with GB. I'm leaning rivers, but id like your thoughts.
Nicks and colston have my WR slots, Foster is my back, and Graham is my TE. But Flex is where my question lies. I have McFadden, who usually gets the call, but with injury, my backups are Manningham, and Finely. Manningham was this weeks pick up due to how awful the patriots secondary is, so my hopes is that he could put up some points. So again your thoughts would be appreciated.
And finally, simply, Dan Bailey or David Akers. Its a toss up in my mind.
Thanks again for all you do.
Should I trade Fred Jackson for LeSean McCoy?
ReplyDeleteHey GHL!
ReplyDeleteIf Michael Bush ends up starting how far up does he move in rankings, and would you start him over Chris Johnson!
Out of these WR's, who do you think will have better second half of season: Nate Washington, Eric Decker, Heyward-Bay, Antonio Brown and Jonathan Baldwin.
Thanks!
I should probably also mention that I have the ravens defense in, so even if Ben turns the ball over a lot, I still get those points, just from the ravens.
ReplyDeleteBradshaw is out for at least this week with a cracked bone in his foot. Where would that bump Jacobs to?
ReplyDeleteNice rankings GHL.
ReplyDeleteI need some help filling in my RB, WR, and Flex positions.
I have Fred Jackson, Frank Gore, Demarco Murray, Jame Starks, Roy Helu at RB and Mike Wallace, Djax, Miles Austin, and Nate Washington at WR.
What are your thoughts?
Michael Bush or DeMarco Murray?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I need much advice this week. Important game for me. Thanks ahead of time! All questions are for a PPR League
ReplyDelete1) Why Garcon over Cruz? Garcon is being passed to by Painter and playing against Atlanta who I think is pretty against the pass. What do you think about me playing both Cruz and Manningham? They are playing NE who is terrible against the pass. Plus Manning is way more reliable than Painter. I see one possible prob with this move. As he has both Vick and Manning. If he plays Manning does that have a negative impact for me because his QB would be throwing to two of my recievers? As of now he has Manning in.
2) I can play either 3rb 2wr or 2rb 3wr
RB options : Rice,Tolbert, Blount, Ingram
WR Options: Juilo Jones, Manningham, Cruz, and Garcon
Would you Play 3RB or 3WR with this lineup? and who?
.
3)Fantasyfootballoutsiders.com Defense efficiency ratings ranks Greenbays Defense up to this point in the season 20th against the pass and 19th against the rush. I State this in direct relation to my last question with Tolbert as a Running back option b/c I have Rivers as a QB option.
Other Qb options on the table are instead of Rivers.
ReplyDeleteTebow- Oaklands D is not that great against the pass are they?
I could pick up Freeman- The Bucs are my team, pick em first predicts him at 23 more than both tebow and Rivers. and he did play great against the Saints the first time around.
I could pick up Alex Smith, who could do much better with the running game picking up. Please help as my QB situation has sucked. Who you think for this week? Who do you think will have a better rest of their season? I am going to go ahead and drop Tebow and Pick up Freeman as I am a huge Bucs fan, but I am sure if you think this was a big mistake I can pick him back up. lol
Hi GHL!
ReplyDeletePlay Jackie Battle over Chris Johnson?
Advance Thanks!
Hey guys,
ReplyDeleteSo I just saw that Brandon Jacobs was available on waivers, so I dropped Darrius Heyward Bey in order to pick him up for the week, since Bradshaw is talking about missing the season (also saying he'll play Sunday?). Anyway, I am trying to sort out who to start now that I got Frankenstein:
Brandon Jacobs
Julio Jones
Michael Crabtree
Demarco Murray
Thanks!
Need a WR3 if Nicks can't go:
ReplyDeleteDavid Nelson, Jabar Gaffney, James Jones - or pick up Antonio Brown.
RB2 situation: Mendy or Sproles (it's maddening)
Keep going back and forth b/t PHI & NYJ for defense. Was going to go with PHI until I saw your rankings. Thanks again!
if Bradshaw is out, would you start Jacobs over James Starks for my RB2?
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is time to start strengthening for the playoffs and this could be a great move. He definitely needs the TE help and you can offer that to him. I would probably use Hernandez just because he is having the better year so far. I would rank him pretty closely with Pettigrew though.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a fair trade that will definitely benefit you. Going for McCoy would probably get turned down, but I think Turner is reasonable.
I doubt that someone would take CJ for Sproles, just because there is so much negative talk about Johnson right now.
So.. You kind of just need to accept right now that you are in for a shitty weak. A really shitty one.
ReplyDeleteStafford on bye. AP on bye. Hillis likely out. Calvin on bye. Andre Johnson out. Yikes
Anyways, this is what my play would be:
QB: Cassel. This was a good pickup on your part
RB: Sproles and CJ2K. I think this is the route that you are forced into going with. CJ has been lame this year, Sproles is a good play though. Hillis will likely miss again, and Moreno and Bush just can't be counted on.
WR: You're really going to have to go with the only three you have this week. Jones, Harvin and Brown. They could all do pretty well, but it is a stretch by all means.
I like your defensive move as well here.
Hopefully you have a weak matchup as well. I suppose it is winnable, but you are going to need solid play from each of these guys. I've seen stranger things. Good luck, man. Let me know how this one turns out!
Cincy is becoming one of those defenses where it is less about who they are playing and more about the fact that they are just a really solid all-around defense. They are good against anyone they face, really. Tennessee has been slumping a bit, which is why Cincy is so high for me.
ReplyDeleteJets are going toward a run game, so the turnovers that we saw at the start of the season are dwindling. Buffalo is very solid and did outstanding last week, but I don't know that they can repeat against NYJ off a bye.
I know that Finley hasn't shown up at all really. The Packers just have so many weapons that he isnt working out for fantasy like we all thought. I'm still putting him high, just because the chance is always there and he really never gets shut out entirely. But I completely understand using Hernandez ahead of him. He has been off to a great year.
Thanks a lot! Glad I can help you out. Make sure you spread the word for me. I'm sick of watching/reading half the clowns on ESPN and the bigger sites. Wanna see my name in lights!
ReplyDeleteAnyways...
1) You probably have to worry about that WR position too as I'm not sure that Nicks will be making an appearance this Sunday. That being said, I'm going to give you a few scenarios here. If Nicks is out, I would go Manningham at WR and Jacobs at flex (because Bradshaw is out). If Nicks plays, it would be between Manningham and Jacobs for me. You could go either way here. Jacobs will be getting really all of the carries, but NE is awful against WRs, so starting two WRs from the same team might actually pay off for you.
2) With Foster and Forte here, I would say that it is definitely possible to make a trade. I think he has been doing fine, just limited by injury. He has been having a really great year actually for as little as he is playing.
If you want to, you can put him up for a trade since you have such great RBs. You can shoot for either an RB or a WR with this spot that you will play consistently at your flex spot. Just find someone who is hurting a bit at RB, and make them an offer for one of their starters (likely a WR)
3) I like the pickup. You really arent ever going to use him, so its kind of just like you picked him up to sit on your bench for the year. But should anything happen to CJ where his playing time decreases even more, or if Ringer has a breakout game, you are keeping him off your competitions' teams.
Based on who all you are starting, this team is just completely stacked. So I can't imagine you are having much trouble here.
Congratulations! That is an awesome record any year, let alone your first. Championship is all the matters in the end though, so let's get you through that.
ReplyDeleteQB- I'm agreeing with you here. GB is the second worst pass defense in the NFL, and Rivers has a habit of waiting til the second half of the season to turn it on. Mathews is out and Tolbert has a ton of receptions out of the backfield, so they could be passing it a lot here. His receivers are finally all healthy at once, this could be a good game for him. I know the hesitation is there since he hasn't done much so far, but I think its the smart play. I'd rather play a QB that is facing the 31st best defense than the one that is facing the 3rd best.
Keep an eye on Nicks to make sure that he plays, first of all. I agree that Manningham could be a great play here. He could actually end the week as a top 20 WR. Higher if Nicks is out.
If Nicks is out you are going to have to play both Manningham and Finley. If Nicks plays, I'd still go Manningham and risk starting two WRs of the same team.
Dan Bailey has been pretty hot lately, minus the Philly game. Cowboys should be able to drive on SEA pretty easy at home. I like him this week.
Trading a top 5 back for a top 5 back. Its a gut call really. Both have been great up to this point. McCoy is in the softer division when it comes to defending the run. With his great play in the passing game.. I would probably prefer to own McCoy over F Jackson for the rest of the season.
ReplyDeleteBush would jump pretty high. He is a great back that would actually be a starter on many other NFL teams, in my opinion. I would move him between 12-15. I would go for him over Johnson.
ReplyDeleteAntonio Brown probably has the best second half of the guys listed. Washington hasn't lit up like I thought he would. Decker suffers from a bad QB situation. Heyward-Bey could be great, but I dont trust Palmer, jury is still out on him. Baldwin has done surprisingly well with T Jackson starting, but Sidney Rice is there, and SEA is just not a good offense.
Brown has the most upside, and is a potential starter in the future. Roeth seems to get along with him. Could be smooth sailing from here out.
Quite a bit, I think. NE is tough, but I think that a bigger RB like Jacobs could perform better against them than a smaller back would. I wouldn't put him as high as bradshaw, but I can see him finishing somewhere around number 15. I'm just scared that NYG will be passing all day long.
ReplyDeleteThank you sir. I do my best.
ReplyDeleteI'd go Jackson, Gore, Wallace, DJax and Austin.
Murray sits for me here. SEA is a decent rush defense. Cowboys will need to throw the ball if they don't want to get embarrassed again this week.
If McFadden is ruled out I'd roll with Bush on this one. If not, go Murray.
ReplyDeleteMurray is facing a pretty good run defense, and I see the Cowboys passing more than usual this week. Murray will have a good game only if the Cowboys get up quite a bit and Murray is allowed to just run the clock out.
Denver gives up a more yardage to RBs and OAK doesnt have the finest of passing games to rely on, so Bush could be getting a lot of work.
1) Atlanta is actually 23rd against the pass this year, giving up 277 per game. Also, Garcon has quietly become one of the top 10 receivers in the league fantasy-wise. Even with Painter throwing to him, he is getting the job done.
ReplyDeleteCruz, as you said is playing against an awful pass defense, but I think that Manningham will be the most thrown to in the game. Of course, I made these rankings with the assumption that Nicks would be in the lineup. If Nicks plays, then yeah, I keep Garcon over Cruz. If Nicks is out, that boosts Cruz, likely ahead of Garcon.
As for your second question there. I have never. Never. NEVER worried about who my opponent was starting to dictate who I start. It should never matter. You are shooting to get the most points that you possibly can. If Manning hooks up with Cruz for 4 touchdowns, sure Manning is going to have a great day, but so is Cruz. If you decided to sit Cruz just because your opponent was starting Manning, then you'd have lost out on all of those points. Understand?
Never worry about who your opponent is starting. It is pointless. Your goal is to get as many points as you can with YOUR guys. Period.
2) I'd go 3WR and 2 RB. You just stand a better chance of winning that way. Your WR3 is much better than your RB2 in my opinion. I'd go Rice, Tolbert, Jones, Manningham and Cruz/Garcon (depending on if Nicks plays)
I can see starting Blount here. And I'm arguing with myself a little bit on this. If you are PPR, then I would probably go with 3 WRs. If there is no PPR in your league, then maybe roll with Blount and 2 WRs. Any way you slice it, you should be getting similar points from any combo.
3) Green Bay is giving up 305 yards per game and 12 touchdowns through the air. They are much worse than 20th against the pass. I like Rivers this week.
I have Rivers this week. GB gives up a ton of yardage through the air. SD should be passing a lot. Rivers is better in the second half the the season based on past performances. I think he has one of his best games this week.
ReplyDeleteOakland is the softest defense that he has played, but I personally just don't trust him as a starter. He is guaranteed to get you about 15 points though because of his running ability. I just think that everyone else has higher upside than him. I dont want to start a fantasy QB who only throws 150 yards per game. Can't rely on that.
Freeman would be a gut call. NO has been far from awesome, but Tampa hasnt been too hot either. I can see the potential for a good week, but Saints are going to come in hot at home after an embarrassing loss.
Alex smith... dont make me laugh.
If your gut is screaming for Freeman. Go ahead and do it. I would personally rather keep Tebow, because he is a decent fantasy QB, and I would be more comfortable with him on my bench than him starting for my opponent (he is on my bench in 2 of 4 leagues)
I start Rivers though.
I say go for it. Battle has potential to tear it up this week. He has been decent in the past three games, and I think he could flirt with 100 yards again this week against MIA.
ReplyDeleteI don't really know what you are shooting for here. Are you just looking for one for a flex position.
ReplyDeleteAnyways. Of the 4, I'd rank them in this order this week.
1) Jones,
2) Murray
3) Jacobs
4) Crabtree
Jacobs could actually really surprise here, but against NE, I think the Giants will be passing a lot. Jacobs does become a better play if Nicks is out though.
Murray will probably get some running opportunites against SEA, but they are decent at stopping the run, so Jacobs could easily be number two on this list.
I still have Jones higher than both. He was doing great up to the injury. And he can easily beat Indy.
Yikes. These are both maddening! I feel a little bad for you actually. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteWR3... Gaffney hurt my feelings by not performing well when I told everyone that he would. Also, playing SF doesnt look great for him. Jones was hot for a while, but I can't see him as a starter really. Nelson could be a decent play, Steve Johnson will be busy with Revis all day, and Fitz will need someone to throw the ball too, Nelson does have a lot of upside here.
Antonio Brown is the highest on my rankings here though. Ward should again be out. Brown has become a great target for Roethlisberger. And hopefully BAL will be busy with Wallace leaving Brown open a little bit. He is a bit of a gamble since BAL is a very good defense, but I like him here more than the other options. Nelson does have good upside though if your gut says anything about him.
RB2. This is awful. I feel for you. I'd go Sproles based on the matchup. Mendenhall was awful against Baltimore last time.
Hope the rankings pay off. Neither should really be that bad. PHI could get a ton of sacks. Jets are more of a gut thing for me. I think they can definitely shut down buffalo this week.
Yeah. I would put Jacobs at about number 15 on this list. I think he will be able to get some work against NE. Bradshaw should not be playing this week.
ReplyDeleteMan, you saved me last week with the Manningham call, so I am going to keep coming to the well . . .
ReplyDeleteI am starting A Boldin against Steelers. I have Megatron, Peterson, Staff on bye and Mcfadden out thus I need pts. Is grabbing Jacoby Jones off Waivers and putting him in place of Boldin worthwhile? I got Manningham and Julio at WRs.
thanks a bunch. Yea so nicks is ruled out and mathews is questionable: so this means I should start jacobs at flex, and manningham at #2 WR? Or should i start mathews at flex?
ReplyDeleteAnd also idk if you do this but could you recommend a trade outline that I should try to shoot for w/ mathews?
Ands i will be spreading the word! Thanks
Thanks! This is my first year playing and I was not sure if worrying about my opponents players was pointless. Thanks for driving that one home. I am keeping rivers and the advice on Nicks seems great. You guys have really helped me this season. GO RIVERS!!
ReplyDeletebengals d or packers d this week? also i have cj2k, hillis, ap, sproles, and moreno on my team..should i try to trade cj2k and maybe hillis for a better rb?
ReplyDeleteI've got a mess at 2 WR/ 2 RB/ 1 W/R Flex, non-PPR league.
ReplyDeleteWRs - DJax, Dez, Manningham, Cruz, Jordy Nelson, Plax.
RBs - DeMarco Murray, LeSean McCoy, Reggie Bush.
My general rule of thumb is to go with RB at Flex, but R Bush isn't someone I have too much confidence in (should I?). I'm not too big on Plax, and I picked him up to see if his recent performance was a fluke or not. DJax and Dez have been so inconsistent, Jordy plays on a team with so many other weapons, and I'm not so sure about starting two guys from the same team (although, Nicks is probably out and Manningham and Cruz are playing NE...).
Brandon Jacobs is available for pick up, and I'm pondering dropping Reggie to do that and stick him in Flex and going the three RBs and with the two Giants WRs. What do you think?
I have to have Boldin above Jacoby Jones here.
ReplyDeleteJones might be alright since Andre Johnson is out again, but despite Johnson's injury, Jones has not done much in the way of fantasy points. I'd stick with Boldin here.
Sounds like a tough week of byes, but I think you've got the talent to pull it off. Manningham is another awesome play this week. Nicks is likely out, Bradshaw too. Giants are playing against NE. Could be a huge passing game for the Giants.
I doubt Mathews will play. Go Manningham and Jacobs. If Mathews is cleared tomorrow and looks good, then go ahead with him at flex.
ReplyDeleteMathews is a top 10 RB right now, so if you want to go for another running back, I'd just go for one around where he is. If you want a WR out of the deal, just shoot for one with similar points. Should be easy to sort out a straight-up trade here. If you want to couple him with somebody, it will likely be easier to get a higher value though.
Hope this helps! Take care and good luck.
I've got Rivers starting too, so I'm definitely pulling for him this week. Think it could be his breakthrough.
ReplyDeleteGood luck this week. Let me know how it turns out.
I've got the Bengals higher. The matchup is alright and they have been great all year. Packers have been good too, but I think that SD can put up a decent score on them.
ReplyDeleteYou can try to package CJ and Hillis for a better RB, but I don't have any idea how far that will get you. When you have two guys that were expected to be high, and they have been performing way off projections, they are going to be very hard to get rid of. You can try it out, but have a goal in mind and don't go under it.
I do think that you should drop bush for Jacobs. Daniel Thomas is back so Bush will drop, and Bradshaw is out for a bit, which should help Jacobs. Because your RB3 isnt great though, I would opt to alwasy put a WR in flex, you are much stronger at that position.
ReplyDeleteRB - Murray and McCoy, duh
WR - Jackson and Bryant are your best, even if they are inconsistent. I think that you need to start them still. With Nicks out, its going to be hard to guess which NYG receiver will be the best to throw at flex. I would go Manningham, he seems less flukey than Cruz, but both could be great great plays here.
Nelson has been pretty good too, and WR2s have been scoring on San Diego, so he is a possibility too. I really think that any combo of your WRs will be pretty good here.
Personally, I think I'd go Jackson, Dez and Manningham.
My best advice for you would be to go with your gut here. Start three receivers. The three that you feel best about. All 5 should have good weeks.
For my non ppr leauge I have Big Ben? His 5 turn overs agains the Ravens week 1 worry you? I mean I could pick up Tebow or another terrible qb with higher espn projections then ben. Also you think Cundiff over Gostkowski, give me quick reasoning behind them please. I got them both in this terribly deep league im in
ReplyDeleteSince week one the Ravens have declined and Pittsburgh has improved all over the place. I can't imagine that Ben will have as many turnovers. The matchup is still a tough one though. I can't imagine that any QB on waivers would be guaranteed to have a better week than him though. Don't expect another five turnover game.
ReplyDeleteCundiff has been hot, Baltimore has been moving down the field, but arent making the end zone, leaving him with plenty of field goal opportunities. He has hit at least two in every game except the one in Jacksonville. He has 34 fantasy points in the last three games.
Gostkowski is on a team that scores a lot. He hasnt scored under 6 fantasy points in a game, but also hasn't scored over 13.
Both are playing up north, so wind/weather is an equal factor. It comes down to Cundiff just having more opportunities and fantasy points up to Week 9.
