Ladies and gentlemen,
I have an updated list of position rankings following the third week of the 2011 preseason. It is unlikely that many starters will be playing in Week 4, so in all likelihood, this will be the final position rankings posted before the season begins!
Below you will find a very deep listing of all standard positions. If you have any questions or comments about the list go ahead and post them in the comments below. Also, if you’ve got your completed 2011 fantasy football draft, feel free to post it so I can see how you did!

ReplyDeleteThats my fault... I'll add him. I knew I forgot somebody. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHit one more draft this weekend and even though I wound up in pick 6 out of 10 which I hate, I actually can't believe the team I wound up with.
ReplyDeleteQB - Michael Vick
RB - Arian Foster
RB - Rashard Mendenhall
WR - Miles Austin
WR - Wes Welker
TE - Jimmy Graham
DEF - Green Bay
K - Garrett Hartley
BUQB - Matt Stafford
BURB - Mark Ingram
BURB - James Starks
BUWR - Deion Branch
BUWR - Danny Amendola
BUTE - Brent Celek
BUDEF - Minnesota
BUK - Sebastian Jankowski
A couple of things to note - I would never draft a BU K, Def, or TE, but they are league rules and I have to not only draft them, but I have to always keep the same amount of positions in my roster, so I will have a BU Kicker straight into the playoffs. I got Foster, Vick and Mendenhall with my first 3 picks because a lot of the guys grabbed either a solid WR or reached too high for a guy I would have had as BU. I like that you have Miles Austin Higher than last week because at the time I grabbed him, the only solid guys left were him or Dwayne Bowe. I'm hoping the way Ochocinco played this last week gives way to Welker getting more looks too, so I was glad he was available, because after him there was a big drop off. I wish I hadn't also drafted Branch, but there was also a decent drop off after him and who knows, maybe he'll have some trade value. Other than not having the back up system I wanted, I think this one went way beyond my expectations.
I love reading your blog, it helped me prepare for my draft a lot better than I would have on my own. I had the 1st pick in a 10 team, non-ppr, snake draft league. Here is how I came out:
ReplyDeleteQB Drew Brees (2nd round)
WR Hakeem Nicks (3rd)
WR Mike Williams (5th)
RB Adrian Peterson (1st)
RB Matt Forte (4th)
TE Owen Daniels (7th)
W/R Brandon Marshall (6th)
K Nate Kaeding
DEF New England
BENCH: Percy Harvin, Mike Tolbert, Daniel Thomas, Kevin Kolb, Braylon Edwards, Ronnie Brown, Brandon Pettigrew
How did I do in your opinion? I feel like I assembled a decent team, but I made some mistakes too (took Daniels over Graham?) Should I try to trade to add RB depth? Anyway, feedback is appreciated, thanks!
Do you think it's worth dropping Deion Branch now and grabbing Antonio Brown?
ReplyDeleteGHL,
ReplyDeleteI just finished my last fantasy draft. I ended up with the first pick in a 12 man standard league. Here's how I ended up:
QB Matthew Stafford
RB Adrian Peterson
RB LeGarrette Blount
WR Vincent Jackson
WR Austin Miles
RB/WR DeAngelo Williams
TE Kellen Winslow
K Alex Henery
DST Lions (nobody really good left and you had them at 5 so i figured why not? Hope your right haha)
Bench:
Willis McGahee
Reggie Bush
Kyle Orton (Stafford's bye is week 9, Orton goes up against the raiders that week whose secondary looks suspect)
Austin Collie (sure hope he can avoid the concussions this season)
Johnny Knox
How do you think I did in your opinion? I think this is the first time ive ever had the 1st pick, its rough watching all those guys fly off in between picks haha.
CJ2K went 4th in my .5 PPR league, surprisingly. i wouldn't take him until the 8th pick, personally.
ReplyDeletewould love to get your opinion on what ended up being my "all-injury/upside" team. QB's get 6 pts for a td. i had the 9th pick.
QB: Manning, Kolb
WR: Calvin Johnson
WR: Percy Harvin
RB: McFadden
RB: Best
FLEX: Beanie
TE: Gates
DEF: ARIZONA (they play carolina, washington, seattle first 3 weeks)
K: Hartley
BN: Reggie Bush
BN: Austin Collie
BN: Michael Bush
BN: Davone Bess
BN: Nate Burleson
any thoughts would be appreciated!
Backups definitely leave something to be desired, but you cleaned up the rest of the draft. Well played. I have to imagine that your league has some scoring system that puts tons of value on WRs, no?
ReplyDeleteI think so. Its your bench and Brown is nothing but upside.
ReplyDeleteAs far as your starters go, you are looking really nice. Unless someone approaches you with a great deal, then I dont think you need to bother with much at RB, Tolbert/Thomas will be serviceable bye week fillers. You should be happy with how it turned out. You got the best RB in my opinion. And Brees is definitely a top 5 QB and Nicks could put up the best WR numbers this year, easy.
ReplyDeleteThats why I hate being pick number 1, you have a lot of time to second guess yourself. AP was my first pick as well, so I agree with you there. V Jax and Austin are a very solid WR combo. If Blount can get back to last season's form rather than how he has looked so far in preseason, youll be alright. Winslow is always very consistent and if Stafford can stay healthy, he'll break out this year. I have to commend you on your bench too. Strong at all positions there, if you do end up with an injury, you can confidently put any of them in.
ReplyDeleteGreat draft.
You got it right on the nose. You are definitely a fragile team. McFadden, Best, Harvin, Wells, Gates. But if they can manage to pull through, you look pretty good. I notice the handcuff, which I'm not fond of, but if you got him late enough, it works.
ReplyDeleteArizona does have nice matchups, but they are not a great defense, so that could be trouble, if they dont do well in week one, I'd let them go.
Overall, its a pretty good team. Got one strong performer at all positions which is definitely a good way to start the season.
Other than a .5 point per reception, nothing out of the ordinary. I was shocked that Foster went to the 6th pick, shocked again that Vick went 15th and then again that I still had a shot at Mendenhall at 26th.
ReplyDeleteIn a 16team league. My roster is as follows
ReplyDeleteQb stafford and Bradford
Rb forte, Pierre, Starks, delone Carter
Wr Calvin, vjax, dez, breaston, Andre Roberts
Te Olsen and Gresham
D/st nyg and 49ers
K vinateri
We start 1 rb 2 wr 1 rb/wr flex so I went hard on wr since most RBs were kept
What u think?
Just completed my first draft..a 10 team, standard scoring league w/ the 5th pick.
ReplyDeleteQB - Matthew Stafford (rd. 7)
WR - Hakeem Nicks (rd. 2)
WR - Mike Wallace (rd. 3)
WR - Dez Bryant (rd. 4)
RB - Ray Rice (rd. 1)
RB - DeAngelo Williams (rd. 5)
TE - Jimmy Graham (rd. 8)
K - Rob Bironas (rd. 16)
D/ST - Atlanta (rd. 15)
Bench:
QB - Joe Flacco
WR - Jeremy Maclin, Malcolm Floyd, Lee Evans
RB - Tim Hightower, Mike Tolbert, Jonathan Stewart
Some notes:
I'm absolutely stoked with my receivers. I was able to grab Maclin in the 6th when all the QB's I wanted were already gone and took D-Will in the 5th because I wasn't too thrilled with the board. I was just happy to get Hightower when I did; I'm drinking the Kool Aid this year. And Mike Vick went first overall.. the kid said the draft messed up for him with his second round pick and got him Philip Rivers. Obviously he doesn't need both, so I'm already wondering if I can try to pry Rivers from him with maybe a package of Stafford and Maclin (his WRs are Bowe, Holmes and Britt). And his RBs are MJD and Mathews, with a bench of Ronnie Brown and Fred Jackon. Thoughts?
Definitely a great group of receivers. And Forte will do well for you in your RB slot. We all know that I think Stafford will have a big year, and I like the Olsen pick too. Nice work.
ReplyDeleteLoving your receivers. Rest of the team is solid too. Rivers would definitely put you in prime position to win it all, so I say try to make a deal. Try it out with Stafford and Maclin first. But he likely won't budge because he'll we wanting someone with round 2 value. If you feel that Stafford won't cut it for you and you need this trade, then try coupling Stafford and Dez. I wouldnt go much crazier than that though. Maclin, Floyd and Evans are great backups and you know that one of them will prove that they are WR3 material this year. I'd hate to see Dez go, but taking a big step for a better QB could win this season for you.
ReplyDeleteJust completed my second draft (first one was 3 weeks ago).
ReplyDeleteNot an important league (most people I don't know personally), and it was a strange draft (some interesting RBs falling too far), but I think I got a very solid group.
It's a 10-team league, so everybody's team looks strong, but even so.
I got the 8th pick.
QB - Matt Ryan (Rd 7)
WR1 - Andre Johnson (Rd 1)
WR2 - Miles Austin (Rd 3)
WR3 - Mario Manningham (Rd 5)
RB 1 - Lesean McCoy (Rd 2) - Didn't expect him to fall this far.
RB 2 - Matt Forte (Rd 4) - Not in love with this pick, but I feel it's good value here.
TE - Vernon Davis (Rd 6) - Very happy to get my top ranked TE.
K - Robie Gould
DEF - San Francisco (Detroit was available but I could not pass on the macthup - SEA, with no QB, at home)
BURB1 - DeAngelo Willians (Rd 8) - Another RB that I didn't expect to be available this far
BURB2 - Joseph Addai (Rd 11) - Good upside for a bounce back year
BUWR1 - Mike Thomas - nice to have a team-WR1 on the bench.
BUWR2 - Malcom Floyd - San Diego offense is so strong that he can steal the WR3 spot during the season
BUWR3 - Lee Evans - mostly upside. I could afford a wild-card pick
BUQB - Sam Bradford - was my target for backup QB all along.
Overall I'm pretty happy with my starting WRs and I feel I have good options for the byes.
Forte is a decent RB2 and I got some options on the bench that could replace him depending on matchups.
Ryan will get the job done at QB and I can play Bradford depending on matchups.
Vernon Davis never missed a game so I got a very reliable top TE.
I'm sensing playoffs already. Did I drink the Kool-Aid?
Your thoughts are appreciated.
10 Team PPR Draft I had, did an offline draft and we were allowed to swap draft picks with each other as we pleased. I decided to load the front end of my draft trading up to have three picks in the top twelve.
ReplyDeleteQB-Stafford

Flex-Mcfadden
K-Empty
D-Empty
Bench-Bradford QB
Bench-Jones RB
Bench-Tolbert RB
Bench-Harper RB
Bench-Britt WR
Bench-Moore WR
Bench-Bess WR
Bench-Branch WR
I intend on trading for Bush to handcuff Mcfadden. At TE my choices in FA include Gronkowski, Hernandez, Cook, & Kendricks. Obviously I have some needs at QB/WR/TE. I've entertained offers such as Mcfadden/Branch/Harper for Rivers/R.Bush/Spiller and Charles/Branch/Harper for Fitzgerald/Witten/F.Jackson. I plan on putting your defensive scheme to work this year changing it every week with the matchups.
Those first 5 picks are insane. The rest arent too shabby either. The bench is very solid at all positions. I have very little to say about this. I'm jealous. My last 10 team draft went much worse than this.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an interesting strategy. I like Cook a lot off waivers, glad you are going with my defensive strategy. It works. I dont have a problem with your QB. I think Stafford will be money this year. WR is really the weak spot on your team. Would have been nice to see you go RB/RB/WR with your first three picks, especially since they were all so high. Hopefully through trades you can strengthen it up though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm very pleased with this draft too. Much better than the previous one, when I made a basic mistake.
ReplyDeleteBut the competition in this league doesn't seem to be very high. I saw some really strange picks all over the place, even in the first 4 rounds.
So I'm not sure I can take too much credit for that.
Even so, I good draft is a good draft, and I'm looking forward for a pleasant season in this league..
Other people's bad decisions are nothing to complain about. You should definitely sit back and be happy about this one.
ReplyDeleteHey, just finished my draft!! How'd I do?! 12 Team 1PPR league..
ReplyDeleteQB- Matthew Stafford (round 8)
RB- Frank Gore (round 2)
RB- Shonn Green (round 3)
WR- Andre Johnson (round 1)
WR- Brandon Marshall (round 4)
WR- Mike Williams (TB) (round 10 keeper)
TE- Jimmy Graham (round 7)
Def- Detroit (round 15)
K- Stephen Gostkowski (round 16)
Bench
RB- Tim Hightower (round 6)
RB- Delonte Carter (round 11)
RB- Jerome Harrison (round 14)
WR- Percy Harvin (round 5)
WR- Greg Little (round 12)
QB- Joe Flacco (round 9)
TE- Jared Cook (round 13)
Running back might be a little suspect, but outside of that, its a good draft. Got some solid sleepers on your bench too which is great. Good draft. Keeping M Williams was a good move.
ReplyDeleteI've just picked up Ben Tate at the expense of a kicker (for now) to frustrate Arian's owner. He has Brady as his QB, Witten as his TE and Jonny Knox as his WR3. Needless to say my strengths match his weakness. I haven't heard from Rivers' owner yet..so I plan on tossing out another offer for some Brady and someone package with maybe Stafford, Tate and one of my lesser WRs - at least to put some pressure on him over Foster's uncertainty.
ReplyDeleteWassup GHL!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my team! Let me know what you think... (This League is with IDP's)
QB - Aaron Rodgers (rd1)
WR1 - Hakeem Nicks (rd3)
WR2 - Dwayne Bowe (rd 6)
RB1 - Michael Turner (rd2)
RB2 - DeAngelo Williams (rd 4)
TE - Greg Olsen (rd 14)
Flex - Knowshon Moreno (rd 5)
K - Gostkowsi (rd 13)

RB - Jonathan Stewart (rd8)

QB - Joe Flacco (rd 11)
Defense
CB - Finnegan (rd 15)
S - Donte Whitner (rd 16)
LB - Jon Beason (rd 12)
Had the 9th pick in a standard 10 team league. I was a little drunk which I think explains the Newton pick. it was in the last round at least with no other qb's to speak of. All in all I am ok with the draft. Your thoughts?
ReplyDeleteQB-Schaub, Newton
WR- Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Sydney Rice, Malcolm Floyd, Braylon Edwards
RB- Mendenhal, steve Jackson, Ryan Grant, Joseph Addai, Ryan Matthews
TE- Vernon DAvis
K- Matt Bryant
Def- San Diego
Very nice. A little bit reachy there for Moreno, but youve got some talented guys on the bench in case that doesnt pan out. Great IDP picks too. Lots of tackles coming your way for sure.
ReplyDeleteI can let Newton slide since it was the last round. Sometimes thats a fun little exclamation points bragging that you have had a great draft. Schaub is great and kind of unsung this year, should put up good numbers. I like the receivers too. Overall a very solid draft.
ReplyDeleteI had 9th pick out of 10 teams in a standard league.
ReplyDeleteQB- Matt Ryan, Kyle Orton
RB- LeSean McCoy, Michael Turner, Knowshon Moreno, Jonathan Stewart
WR- Desean Jackson, Brandon Lloyd, Julio Jones, Chad Ochocinco, Hines Ward, Mike Williams
TE- Dustin Keller, Greg Olsen
Def-Chicago
Your thoughts
I like it. I'd probably prefer Olsen to Keller, at least toward the middle of the season depending on how well they are performing. Keller did not impress much last year. WR3 is the only really question mark that you have. Julio Jones should step up though, so dont worry too much. Everything else is pretty solid.
ReplyDeleteTrading Jennings and receiving Welker and Britt in a 1 point per reception league. Would you pull the trigger? Already have Nicks as my WR1. Also Olsen, Cook, Kendricks..whose the odd man out? 3 T.E. is too many.
ReplyDeleteIf you start three WRs at one time, then I would say yeah, go for it. If not, then dont make the trade.
ReplyDeleteI would say that Kendricks is the odd man out in this. I like Olsen a lot and am not too worried about Shockey.
Its always good to check up on the GHL website. I had some great help from you last season.
ReplyDelete8 Team League, I picked first. I find it tricky being first , too. Always double guessing your pick. I thought i did alright though. I hope Turner will do well. Blount is my Flex player, would you agree? (1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 FLEX))
1 Adrian Peterson, Min RB
16 Michael Turner, Atl RB
17 Philip Rivers, SD QB
32 Mike Williams, TB WR
33 LeGarrette Blount, TB RB
48 Mario Manningham, NYG WR
49 Anquan Boldin, Bal WR
64 Beanie Wells, Ari RB
65 Santana Moss, Wsh WR
80 Mark Ingram, NO RB
81 Packers D/ST D/ST
96 Tim Hightower, Wsh RB
97 Plaxico Burress, NYJ WR
112 C.J. Spiller, Buf RB
113 Sam Bradford, StL QB
128 Greg Olsen, Car TE
129 Paul Posluszny, Jac LB
144 Nick Folk, NYJ K
Thanks
Eli over Ben? Really?
ReplyDeleteEli has always been a pretty solid fantasy QB. Big Ben is very up and down. Also, I like Eli's receivers better.
ReplyDeleteIf the preseason has shown anything though. Its that this could easily change. Eli has been garbage so far, and Pitt is starting to look like a passing team.
Blount's a good flex. With an 8-team league you have so much talent on your bench that you might as well make your flex pick based on matchup. Wells, Moss and Ingram could be very solid in certain games this season. Overall, I like it. And Posluszny is a killer IDP pick. No clue how he fell that far. I guess everyone decided to fill their offensive bench before shooting for an IDP guy. Great pick up.
ReplyDeleteTonight, with the 4th pick in the draft...
ReplyDeleteQB- Schaub (5)
WR- VJax (3)
WR- DJax (4)
RB- Chris Johnson (1)
RB- Michael Turner (2)
TE- Owen Daniels (7)
W/R-Dez Bryant (6)
K- Josh Brown (11)
D- ATL (15)
Bench- Santonio Holmes (8), Beanie Wells (9), Greg Olsen (10), Sam Bradford (12), CJ Spiller (13), Roy Williams (14)
I have enjoyed reading GHL and I would appreciate any comments/suggestions on my draft and how I could improve my lineup via trades and also some advice on what to do with my WR/RB flex spot. This was my second draft ever (this is my first season), and I look forward to continue learning. Thanks!
I like it a lot. Really not much more to say. This is really kind of my ideal draft. Where you drafted everyone, the talent that you got. Excellent value throughout, great bench talent. Really an excellent draft.
ReplyDeleteI wouldnt change anything for your week one roster. Wells might be a good play at flex though if you are nervous about Dez vs the Jets. Malcom Floyd is likely getting left behind because VJax is back and such a popular pick, he's just getting overlooked. Also Gates is healthy, making Floyd essentially the 3rd receiver on the team. If you want to drop for him, I'd get rid of Williams until he shows that he has any worth.
Really, a great draft. Congratulations.
Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading around a lot and been hearing how Turner might get stifled by the Bears' D this week and have been pondering starting S Holmes in the flex and moving Beanie into the RB2 slot - any thoughts on that?
Holmes in the flex could be good. But I like Dez there. I would not take Turner out though. He'll be fine against the Bears. Wells will get a lot of looks, and could perform well, but Turner is more of a lock, Just look at the stats.
ReplyDeleteHolmes for Dez is up to you. Go with the gut. I've got Dez above Holmes, so do most people I imagine. But Holmes could light up an injured Cowboys backfield.
I have Holmes above Dez. I'm sorry. I do like Holmes this week. He should be a top producer.
ReplyDelete
