Fantasy Football Week 6 Position Rankings

Week 6 Position Rankings
A little bit upset to see that we are already over a third of the way through this fantasy season. So far so good on this end. Hope that these weekly rankings are getting the job done for everyone.
Got a handful of wide receiver sleepers since they seem to be popping up every week. I have a feeling about Torrey Smith this week. Same goes for Michael Crabtree, Antonio Brown and Greg Little. I am finally sold that Victor Cruz is pretty legit. As long as Eli keeps going deep with it, Cruz will put up numbers.
Running back, as usual has a pretty sharp drop off. I would expect Felix Jones to put up a good show. It is going to be interesting to watch some backups play this week with Earnest Graham likely getting a lot of the work with Blount out, and a likely split between Delone Carter and Donald Brown with Addai out.
As always, feel free to post any questions or comments you have on this post in preparation for this weekend’s faceoffs. Also, let me know if you have any great sleeper picks or see anyone that I left off the list.

  1. I play against Tom Brady this week and planned on playing Aaron Hernandez over Jermichael Finley for a few reasons. 1. When healthy, Hernandez has been much more consistent than Fin, seems good for 10 pts a week, while Fin has had 1 monster week and thats it. 2. Rams D is ranked #1 against opposing TEs, of course they haven't played the Pack yet. 3. Try to neutralize Brady as much as possible. After seeing where you have them both ranked, should I reconsider it? Would either one be better FLEX option than Shonn Greene?

  2. I was going to ask you to pick two WRs for me from D. Bryant, Wallace, and Garcon, but your rankings seem pretty clear on the subject. (Don't think Garcon can keep it up, eh?) Meanwhile, I'm puzzled over your ranking SJax (vs. GB) over F. Jones (vs. NE). That's my other tough decision, but I was thinking Jones due to matchup. Mistake? I'm the only 4-1 team in my league, but I'm chasing the only undefeated team, who beat me by a mere 4 points in week 2 and shows no sign of slowing down (my fault, since I traded him FJax for SJax and Finley).

In my other league, Decker's poor performance combined with playing Fitzpatrick over Roethlisberger (who knew Ben would go off like that after sucking all season?) dropped me to 3-2 and from 2nd to 5th place. Not worried yet, as 3rd-5th place is decided by less than 3 overall points. Replaced Decker with Colston, but I think I'll give Fitz another shot (hell, I just traded for him last week!).

I know this is the wrong thread, but I'm combining comments. I really hope you're wrong on Tebow, for many reasons (being a Broncos fan being chief among them). I know you threw a lot of stats up based on his play last year, but you forgot one. During those games, he racked up the most fantasy points of any player. I won't go into all the reasons I disagree with the Orton-lovers who trash Tebow at this time, but suffice it to say I think he will struggle at first, but he'll be fine over the long-run. From a fantasy perspective, I grabbed him on both my teams to at least hold for a while. I'm really hoping he does well because my only weakness on my 4-1 team is my QB! I was really close to trading Wallace for Newton, but when Tebow went in I trashed any thoughts of trying to trade for a QB. It'll either be him or Hasselbeck for me from week 7 on. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  3. Don't knOw if I should start Stevie Johnson or Felix jones in my flex spot this week. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Should I trade Steven Jackson for Vernon Davis straight up?

I still have CJ2K, Ryan Matthews, Jackie Battle, DeAngelo Williams and Ryan Torain @ RB...

Also, if I needed to drop any of these RB's would you agree that DeAngelo Williams should be the one?

    Thanks!

  5. Keep going back and forth between Sproles & Mendenhall. I would hate to miss is comeback game.

  6. Right now I have a trade agreement in place to send VJax and McGahee and receive Cam and Julio Jones. Cam is a huge upgrade for me at QB over Freeman. Jones, when back from his hamstring, will probably be my RB2 behind Miles Austin and ahead of some combo of Manningham/Little/Titus Young. My trade partner's other WRs are Jennings and Colston. As of now, do you think I should ask for Colston instead of Jones?

Additionally, his TE's are Chandler and Dickson while I have Hernandez and Pettigrew. He was so quickly willing to give up Cam, that I'm gauging his willingness to give up Jennings. I think what it will come down to is this: would you rather have Jennings and Pettigrew or Jones/Colston and Hernandez?

And now with Blackberry on the worldwide fritz, I'm hoping to get in touch with him and get this trade through and enacted by this weekend since VJax and McGahee are both entering byes..

  7. I am thinking of offering Phil Rivers to someone for Wes Welker, PPR league.

Is this a fair trade, do you think he wont give up Welker? i need help at WR and I am 0-5

I still also have Flacco and Bradford

  8. Update: the Cam + Julio for VJax + Willis trade was just accepted. I almost talked him into sending swapping Jennings in for Julio with me just adding Pettigrew..that woulda been a coup. But the fact Jackson is on a bye left him a little hesitant. We both left the door open for me sending Pettigrew + a WR for Jennings after this week.

  9. So, Darren McFadden's performance has been poor as of late. So with Foster set in at my RB position (only one RB slot in this league), with Nicks, CJ and Graham in at the two WR slots and TE slot, my flex spot is open. My choices are McFadden, Meachem, Colsten, Henderson (yes i basically have the saints receiving core) or Finley. Going off the points put up in the past, McFadden seems to be the clear choice, but im questioning myself. Thoughts?

  10. I have 3 options to put in as my 3rd receiver: Jacoby Jones, Jason Avant, and Lee Evans. All of them seem to me like they could go either way.

Jones screwed up hard last week, but he's being taken off of special teams to focus on his routes.

Avant gets a fair share of catches, but had his 2 slip ups last week.

Evans, I don't even know if he's going to be back in yet, but if he is playing Torrey Smith is back to back up, so Evans might be good for a couple of TD's

    I don't know man.....

  11. BIG TRADE need advice quick cause there is a 2 day waiting period before the players are actually moved from the other team to mine.

I give up Phil rivers and mario manningham, I get Stevie Johnson and Jay cutler.

1 point per reception league. we can start 1 QB in the Flex spot also, so this trade would leave me with Flacco, Cutler and Bradford as my QB's. I desperately need help at WR , I am also 0-5 , so I need to make something happen, should I make this trade ? Rivers has been such a disappointment this year so far....

    ReplyDelete
  12. Was offered Miles Austin (or Dez) + Sproles for CJ2K + Gresham.

Other WRs are Calvin, Percy, Nelson, Little.

Other RBs are McFadden, Beanie, Torain.

And I have Gates waiting in the wings when he’s healthy.

You like this trade? If so, you like Austin or Dez better? Leaning towards Austin. .5 PPR.

As always, thanks for your help.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I also just picked up Torrey Smith since it's pretty clear Evans isn't playing.

    ReplyDelete
  14. update, the trade being offered now is Larry Fitz/Cutler for Rivers/manningham. need help at WR, do i make this trade?

    ReplyDelete
  15. OK. I think I follow this.

You make a good point for Hernandez, but it is hard to bench Finley. His matchup is rough, but he's a playmaker. Since you can play TEs at your flex though, I would highly consider it and play them both. Greene is still not what he was thought to be last year and is still splitting time with LT. The matchup isnt terrible for him. But its a gamble maybe worth making. Pats Cowboys should be a high scoring game too, so Hernandez makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I do think that Garcon can keep it up. But when compared to bigger names with better quarterbacks, I have to keep him relatively low. Romo and Big Ben > Painter.

SJax and Felix are very close for me. Both teams should be passing a lot, and realistically, I should have Felix higher because he will play a bigger part in the passing game. I think having SJax high is more of a nostalgia thing, like keeping Reggie Wayne in the top for so long. You know that Jackson always has an opportunity to make a big play, but we’ve seen nothing so far. You can start Felix with confidence here.

This week I do like Ben over Fitz. Matchup had a lot to do with it, and I think Ben turned a corner. That was Fitz’s first poor game of the season though, so he can be kept in with little worry. Decker flopped, and all of the Broncos receivers will be taking a huge hit with Tebow. I’ll be surprised if Denver can average over 175 passing yards per game.

I know that he had the most fantasy stats last year in the games that he played. But take away the big game against Houston’s awful defense, and its not very impressive. He is going to have a few monster games because he can run the ball so well. I know that is for sure. But in the weeks when he doesn’t find the endzone rushing, he is going to get you 10 points at best. I’d rather have a QB who consistently gets me 18 points per game and has breakouts of 25-30 than a player who gets me 24 points per game consistently, but has awful games where he doesn’t break 10.

I am in the vast, vast minority on this one, but I don’t think he will repeat his stats from last year. I think he’ll be figured out. And the Broncos this year are not as good as the Broncos last year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Tough one. I think S Johnson is a safer bet than Felix.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'd make the trade. You ahve some solid guys that can be starters for you, and you likely need the TE help since you are even considering this. Pull the trigger.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Would you feel worse playing Mendenhall and having him flop again or worse playing Sproles and having Mendy finally break out?

    ReplyDelete
  20. I’m sure that Jones and Colston would be interchangeable here. They likely have very similar stat lines from here on out. It all depends on the length of Jones’s injury. In PPR formats, I would probably rather have Jones on my team.
Jennings of course would be a step above both, but Hernandez is more of a consistent weapon than Pettigrew. With the injury to Scheffler, I think that I would rather have Jennings/Pettigrew.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Its worth a shot. You definitely have to make some moves. I doubt that they will take that trade though unless their QB is absolutely awful.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Sounds good to me. That would bea pretty damn nice trade.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I can see you questioning yourself, but I would definitely roll with McFadden still. He has hit a rough patch, but we all know what he is capable of. He is the most consistent of anybody else you have. I do enjoy you having every damn NO target though, thats pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  24. This is definitely a rough one. Part of me wants to roll the dice with Jones again. But he hasnt proven in the past that he can put up any numbers. And Houston just brought in another WR to take catches away from him.

Avant will get receptions, but is the 3rd WR on the team. Definitely risky as you will be completely gambling on him in this one. Washington is not a bad matchup for a WR3 though.

Evans, I honestly dont know that he will play. He has competition for receptions too and hasnt exactly been spectacular this year.

You pretty much have a coin toss scenario on your hands. None of them look great, but they all have the off chance of doing something big. I would gamble on Jones one more time, but this is a gut call. Go with who you are feeling Sunday morning.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hope I got to you in time!

I think now is the time to make some moves. This sounds good, you will get getting the WR help that you need for sure. Rivers will likely turn it on later in the season, but I agree that you need to make a move now. Cutler will have some surprising games, and Flacco is a decent option basedo n matchup.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I agree wholeheartedly. I love the trade. It helps you a lot. You still have great RBs so losing CJ isnt that big a deal. I would agree that Austin is the way to go here for PPR. They seem to have an equal knack for getting in the end zone too. I expect the stats to be very similar for Dez and Austin, but Austin will likely see more receptions.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good call. I do have him as a potential sleeper. you can probably go with him and be a little more confident than Jones and Avant.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is a little less sexy than Steve Johnson and Cutler, but I still go for it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks for your site! This is my first time commenting. Please help.

I have had trouble at TE since the draft. Keep faith with Greg Olson? Or pick up someone else. My options are not great: Benjamin Watson, Visanthe Shiancoe, or Dustin Keller. Maybe even Scott chandler?

One more quick question. Keep Brandon Marshall with Henne out and some bull crap I over heard during a nap on ESPN about him getting himself ejected? Some of my not so great options are Greg Little, danario Alexander, Brandon Gibson or Mohamed Massaquoi? FYI my other starting wr's are Jordy nelson and Steve Johnson.

This is not a ppr league, but it is a keeper league. I bought a team from a guy who had no clue last season. On top of that during the auction draft my dumb a%$ typed 60 instead of 6 for some receiver I cant even remember. So it made my rebuilding year even tougher dropping 60 bucks on any WR. ARGGGG

  30. I know you have Flacco above Freeman in the rankings this week, but which one would you go with? Freeman will most likely be playing from behind with NO, but is he capable of a come back without throwing more picks again? Flacco has let me down a couple of times this season (including losing by 4 points because I didn't go with Freeman). I have issues picking one each week. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hey guys,
I have a feeling that Greg Little is going to have a HUGE game this week. Call me crazy, but his ascent into the starting line-up against a Colts Defense has him primed for a break out performance. However, I need help deciding who to start in the FLEX position. I have Jonathan Stewart against an iffy Atlanta defense, Brandon Pettigrew against a nasty Niners defense, and Steven Ridley going against my Cowboys. (I also have Plax, but he has disappointed me all season. I hate Mark Sanchez). As of now I am leaning toward Stewart because it is a PPR league. Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I know exactly how you feel man. I had Flacco and Kolb in one league and consistently picked the wrong guy to go with. I picked Kolb last week and he earned me a whopping 0.28 points. So what I did was trade for an elite-ish quarterback who already had a bye and consistently put up good numbers. We'll see if that strategy pays off.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Of course I'll help! Thanks for stopping by.

I predicted a big year for TEs, but it hasnt exactly panned out. Of your list, I do like Olsen the most, but you are going to see inconsistency with any of these guys. Keller would be next on my list, he has been getting a lot more looks as of late.

I doubt that Marshall will do anything, but it usually turns out that unhappy players do not play well. Its rough to sit him for anyone that you listed though. I'd pay attention to his situation, if you dont like how it feels, I like Little of the people you listed.

For a keeper league that you adopted and a big typo, its looking like you are doing pretty well with what you've got. Definitely a rebuilding year for you, but keep an eye on sleepers.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I own Blount in a league and Williams in a league and I really just dont trust Tampa Bay at all any more. At all. Especially after last week.

They likely wont have a meltdown like that again, but I have to put my faith in Flacco over Freeman.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Cowboys are a tough rush defense, I really think that if any New England RB thrives, it will be Woodhead. With BJGE iffy though, then Ridley doesnt seem like a huge stretch here.

DeAngelo finally showed up last week, but I'm sure that it will still be a split, and like you said, he has some good PPR. I'd go with Stewart.

I agree that Little could do some good things this week. We shall see. Cleveland definitely doesnt have any other WRs who are consistent this year. Its time for one to step up.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like it. Hope it works for you.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Are your rankings saying, you think Adrian Peterson is the number one back this week or through week 6 with upside going forward the rest of the season?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Potential trade I need advice on. I'm trying to upgrade my QB situation, which like I said earlier is Flacco and Freeman, and I have a guy in my league that has Vick and Stafford. He has stated his interest in MJD. Is it a good trade to get Stafford and another player (from Nate Washington, Sydney Rice, LeGarrette Blount, and Daniel Thomas) and give up MJD and Flacco/Freeman?
    My lineup as it is...

    QB Flacco
    RB LeSean McCoy
    RB MJD
    Flex Julio Jones
    WR Vincent Jackson
    WR Steve Smith (Carolina)
    TE Jermichael Finley
D/ST Bengals at the moment but changes weekly
    K Sebastion Janikowski

    Bench
    Freeman
    Mario Manningham
    Reggie Wayne
    Knowshon Moreno
    Tim Hightower
    Mike Tolbert
    Stevan Ridley

  39. You think Big Ben will continue to do well. I sat him for the first time this season last week. I lost of course.

In another league I have Sanchez, bc Rivers bye week.. Do you think with Miamis terrible secondary he could really put up 20+? I costs me to drop add. I could pick up: McCoy,Flacco, Campbell, or Alex Smith. Not too worried about the $2 fee if any of these QB's have tremendous upside this week. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Mike williams or Avant? Only options. Hines Ward? Williams has been such a let down as you posted somewhere earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  41. These are simply for this week. In this case though, you can expect AP to be in the top 3 nearly every damn week.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yeah. I can see that happening. It would help you in the end I think. You would probably want to get an RB in the trade to replace MJD. Blount will eventually kick in though, but I think I'd opt for Thomas.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Big Ben is going to be streaky. I expect that the worst is over though, since he is a veteran and seems to have found a groove. Jax isnt a terrible defense though, so things could sour a bit from last week.

I'm in the same boat. Rivers on Bye, so I'm playing Sanchez. He was definitely the best available, and I do think that he can put up numbers against Miami. Dolphins are 31st against quarterbacks this year, so it is definitely his to lose. Only part I hate about it is that I have to cheer for him.

I think that Sanchez would be the safe one here. McCoy would be the sleeper after a solid Week 4 performance, and going up against Oakland. He just isnt getting the TDs that you want to see though. I'd go Mark.
