Week 14 Fantasy Football Pickups

Before we get started on the Waiver Wire pickups... I feel the need for a bit of a pity party here.

I am in a league. 10-teams, IDP, weighted for tackles, competitive and for some cash.

I went into Week 13 at 11-1, I had locked a playoff spot four weeks ago. Locked first place two weeks ago. Untouchable. I mean it.

And in the past two week, my two starting running backs, Adrian Peterson and Matt Forte, both ranked in the top five in scoring, went down. To make matters worse, my two top linebackers, (again, both in the top five in linebacker scoring), Pat Angerer and Desmond Bishop went down with injury.

My four, FOUR, top performing players, all gone. A week before the playoffs begin.

So, now, more than ever, I am pouring my heart and soul into waiver wire pick-ups, because God knows that I need them too.

Week 13 Pick'em and Predictions

Eagles looking like a hot mess vs. the Seahhawks on Thursday night makes me a little bit worried about the remainder of Week 13.

We've seen one relative upset where the favorite completely flopped on the road. And this week we see a lot of favorites hitting the road to face teams that have upset potential. At first glance, these games appear straightforward, but I would not be surprised to see some home team underdogs keep them close. I'm talking about Texans and Falcons, Vikings and Broncos, Dolphins and Raiders, Redskins and Jets, Cardinals and Cowboys, Jags and Chargers.

Could see some big surprises this week. That's all I'm saying.

My locks for the week are Patriots (obviously), Cowboys, Ravens and 49ers. If you're still alive, these teams are likely not available for you to choose from. So good luck with that. Broncos over Vikings and Chargers over Jags would be next in line.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Seattle Seahawks Matchup Preview

Lots of backups on Philly's roster. And, still listed as questionable, LeSean McCoy might be added to that list.

I think that he will get the start and the playing time. If he's on your roster, you better wait til the last minute for word on his status before starting or sitting him.

Philly should be a bit angry after an awful loss to New England, but Vince Young and the receivers were a bit promising putting up over 400 yards through the air.

With Michael Vick and Jeremy Maclin still out, I think you can count on another big day for the Philly offense, statistically anyways.

Seattle has some injuries of their own. Sidney Rice is out for the year, and the offensive line has taken a few hits, meaning that their lone offensive bright spot, Marshawn Lynch, will be facing a tougher defensive stand than he has in the past.

Here are my start'em and sit'em picks for tonight's game.

Start: Vince Young, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, Brent Celek, SEA Defense, PHI Defense

Perhaps: Marshawn Lynch, Riley Cooper, Jason Avant, Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate, Kickers

Sit: Tarvaris Jackson, All backup RBs and WRs, Zach Miller

Sleepers: I think all SEA receivers are sleepers here, none of them are too ahead of the pack. Each of them has good games (or at least seasons) under their belt. With no front-runner, they are all big gambles.
Marshawn Lynch will face a lot of pressure since the O-Line and passing game is so weak, but the Philly Defense has not been great at all against the run. He's not exactly a stable start, but of all the Seahawks, I have to say he has the best chance to score.


As for predictions. Jordan and I both have Philly taking this one.

Week 13 Fantasy Football Position Rankings

And the rankings are in. I'm debating writing a breakdown of tomorrow's game. It seems pretty straightforward, but there could be a handful of sleepers. So, I might just write that piece up.

For now though, you can check out the list that I think is going to perform well. In Week 12, and really all throughout the year, we have seen the WR position all over the place. I struggled putting players in really from about spot 35 down. There are a few guys that didn't make the list that you can keep an eye on this week. Mainly guys in the two or three spot on their teams.

Also in the Wide Receivers rankings, I counted Miles Austin as out. If he does play, I think it would be safe to consider him in the teens. Dez Bryant would remain where he is. Laurent Robinson would fall, likely in the low 30s.

As per usual, if you've got questions, now is the time to start asking. If you have any special requests for me to write up in the next few weeks, let me know about them too. And if there are any players that you think should have made the list that I grossly left out, yell at me.

Week 13: Desperation Fantasy Football Pickups

This is it. Likely the final week of the fantasy football regular season. One more game to make it if you’re on the bubble. One more game to move up if you are fighting for that number one spot. One more week to ruin someone’s weekend by being the sleeper spoiler that knocks them out of contention.

It doesn’t matter which category you fall into. Week 13 is where everything is decided. I’m saying this mostly in part to my heartbreak in Week 12. Up by 30 points, I went into Monday night’s game with Darren Sproles remaining, facing a team with Drew Brees and Victor Cruz. Needless to say, I lost. Brees and Cruz combined for about 60 points.

Now for me to even make the top four and get a playoff spot, I need two tough competitors to lose their matchups. My fate is no longer in my hands. But I know that without a win in Week 13, I stand no chance. So, I pull together everything I’ve got for one last push.

In a late week like this, I tend to favor starting players I already have. While there is a certain need for a gamble sometimes, I would rather play a lock and know that I’m getting some points than go out on a limb and make a desperate reach. With that in mind, I will give you some sleeper pickups that you can insert into your starting roster if you are that desperate.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Pick'em and Predictions

Last week worked out pretty swimmingly. If only I had gone with my gut before that week. After 11-3, though, I'm rolling high and pretty confident after a 2-1 Thursday after stupidly gambling on the falling Lions over the unstoppable Packers.

Jordan and I are not eye-to-eye on a bunch of games this week. Turns out that a lot of these seem to be toss-ups. So good luck to everyone with their pick'em calls this week.

Thanksgiving Advice

Alright kids. I'm off to eat a crap ton of food and watch the games.

Fantasy Football: Analyzing the Thanksgiving Games

Hey everyone. Wanted to get my picks and a little analysis in on todays games.

To start things off, I want to get into the Thanksgiving spirit by thanking all of you. You guys are the people that keep me and this site going.

Every day, I get up to see all of your comments and questions in the comment, and go on Twitter and see all of the follows and feedback that I have gotten from you, and I just want to extend to you a thanks and show you how grateful I really am.

While I may not remember all of your lineups, I do remember all of your names and look for them in the  comments. I don't personally know any of you, but I hope you feel more of a connection with GHL than you would with any other site. Personalized advice is the main reason that I started this advice, and I feel that you have all made that happen and made GHL a success.

This is something that I love to do and really aspire to do on a professional level some day. And you are all helping make that happen.

Some of you challenge me to the extremes. Asking great, thought-provoking questions. Analyzing my picks and rankings and strategies. Giving me criticism and feedback to make GHL the best site that it can be.

Thursday is going to be a huge fantasy impact day. Lots of big names taking the field and a lot of Week 12 outcomes will be decided in just the three matchups. Let’s take a look at the breakdown of the Lions vs. Packers, Cowboys vs Dolphins, and Ravens vs. 49ers.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Position Rankings

Lots of big matchups this week, and getting toward the end of the fantasy football regular season, there is a lot of buzz going on to make a final push toward the playoffs.

It is time to pull out all of the stops. If you are on top of your league and have a playoff spot locked, congrats and I wouldn’t try anything too fancy to jeopardize it. If you are on the bubble, then now is the time to maybe think about some creative gambles to get you into the post-season.

A few big injury updates here. We will be seeing how Matt Leinart and Andre Johnson fare this week. Leinart won’t get any big votes from me, but his starting role could be good news for both Houston running backs, and though I don't have them listed, the backup WRs on Houston might be some big time sleepers with their backup QB starting for them. Big time risk though.

Fred Jackson has been ruled out. CJ Spiller and relatively unknown Johnny White will be filling in. Tough to gauge where they will fall. It has been pretty easy running on the Jets this year, so things could get interesting with these two sleepers.

Michael Vick is not practicing. Neither did DeSean Jackson. Jeremy Maclin did see the field though. So there is a whole lot of mess going down in Philadelphia. Pay close attention to that team throughout the week as position rankings are sure to jump and fall based on how their injury list plays out.

With Thanksgiving coming up, I will be doing my best to provide the usual information. Just be patient with me. As always though, I guarantee to answer all of your questions up til the kickoffs.
