Fantasy Football Championships update

So, I was very upset on Saturday morning to learn that there was a rule in my Fantasy Site Expert League that I couldn't make any additions to my team because there had already been a Week 16 game played that Thursday. Meaning that in the Championship game against the number one ranked team, I would have to start the declared-out Anthony Fasano.

But, today, I am happy to report that despite not having a starting tight end, I won the league! Taking out Fans Fantasy Football 229 to 162.

I was very honored to have been allowed into the league with some great fantasy blog and website writers and even happier to have come out the champion!

I will have Week 17 updates for everyone coming soon if you league goes that long. Also, I will be entering the post-season fantasy football games on NFL.com and ESPN.com, and will be posting strategy and advice for them.

Basically, from here on out until the end of football season, I'll be posting whatever my fine readers tell me to post. So if you've got anything you want to hear, any help you need. Any pickem for college/pros whatever, let me know and I'll give you my two cents.

So... how did everyone else do this weekend? How many winner we got on GHL?!

  1. Well, I lost my championship game by about 27 pts thanks in part to Witten's 4.4 pts and McCoy's 5 (never saw that one coming!). The only way I could have managed a victory in this game would have been to bench both Antonio Brown (7.45 vs. STL) and LeSean McCoy in favor of Kevin Smith (19.1 vs. SD) and Steven Jackson (13.7 vs. Pit). Those two were my money-makers all season. No way I was going to bench them. So this game was a lost cause from the start. Considering this was only my 2nd year playing FF, I'll take it.

In my other league, I won my 5th place game by almost 10 pts, beating out a guy who beat me twice by a combined 8 pts. So there's a small victory there. I'm posting below the final standings for the division I was in. (Note that Yahoo does not add playoff wins or losses to the record, so you're going to see final regular season records.) Tell me, what is wrong with this picture?

Rank Team W-L-T Pct Div Pts For Pts Against Streak
    Division 1
    *1. Phin Fanatic 6-7-0 .462 4-4-0 1482.29 1544.91 W-2
    *2. Favre Smells of Fart 7-6-0 .538 2-5-0 1554.68 1506.00 L-1
    *3. Rear End Zones 9-4-0 .692 5-2-0 1552.20 1493.83 W-8
    *5. Squirrely Wrath 9-4-0 .692 3-4-0 1588.78 1402.22 W-1
    *6. D Town Dominators 9-4-0 .692 4-3-0 1668.94 1488.07 L-2

Yep, that's how my other league went down. Bizarre. There's another 9-4 team in Division 2 that ended up in 4th. That's playoffs for ya! Still much better than last year, and you can look forward to me bugging you again next season when I play for TOTAL DOMINATION! :)

Congrats on your championship! Hopefully it will show everyone why you should be paid to do this. See you next year!

  2. ROMO!!!!!! I'm happy to say that I'm glad I did not make it to the championship game. With Romo putting up fat Zero and McCoy a 4...let's just say that this way all of the windows in my house are still in tact. Congrats to you though!

  4. Even though I started Romo and L. Robinson, I still did well because of Ray Rice, Kevin Smith, and Jonathan Stewart! As such, I am 2/2 and made BOTH championship games next week! I will ask about roster line-ups later in the week. I cannot thank you enough- you were with me from the draft and I hope to win both!
    Best,

  6. Can’t blame yourself on that one. Nobody saw McCoy laying an egg like that, and as soon as Romo was out, Witten lost a lot of steam. No way in hell you could have expected Kevin Smith and Steven Jackson to score higher than Brown and McCoy. Crazy.

Hate it when leagues end like that. Crappy teams always seem to pull it off in the end. I was in two leagues like that this year. One of them had a champion with a losing record in the regular season.

Thanks for the congrats. I’m hoping that winning the expert league game me some cred. There were some heavy hitters in the league, I was actually the smallest site to take part in it, so it’s a huge accomplishment for me. Thank you.

Hope to see you back next year. Thanks for all the questions and conversations this season

In the next few weeks I will be posting advice and rankings for any postseason leagues. Also, I will be asking readers about how I can improve the site, attract a bigger audience and what they want to hear in the offseason. Stay tuned, I’d love to get your feedback on how I can make GHL even better next season.

  7. Hahaha. Thanks man.

I can only imagine. Last year, I had a team with Romo, McCoy and Witten. If I had that team in a championship game this year and only got 9 points from all three of them… there would have been some very creative words thrown around my apartment.

Thanks for hanging out this year! Hope to see you back here in August when NFL talks start boiling again!

  9. Happy to help. Congratulations. Very impressive considering the Romo/Robinson debacle. Romo will be game next week though, no doubt.

  10. I prefer leagues that have their championships in Week 15 or 16 for the reason you must mentioned. It's definitely hard to tell who will be playing. But for the most part, I think we can count on most everyone playing. We'll find out more as we get later into the week.

My rankings will go up today. So just post to that and I'll shoot you some advice once Ive had more time to think about it.
