Fantasy Football Championships update

So, I was very upset on Saturday morning to learn that there was a rule in my Fantasy Site Expert League that I couldn't make any additions to my team because there had already been a Week 16 game played that Thursday. Meaning that in the Championship game against the number one ranked team, I would have to start the declared-out Anthony Fasano.

But, today, I am happy to report that despite not having a starting tight end, I won the league! Taking out Fans Fantasy Football 229 to 162.

I was very honored to have been allowed into the league with some great fantasy blog and website writers and even happier to have come out the champion!

I will have Week 17 updates for everyone coming soon if you league goes that long. Also, I will be entering the post-season fantasy football games on NFL.com and ESPN.com, and will be posting strategy and advice for them.

Basically, from here on out until the end of football season, I'll be posting whatever my fine readers tell me to post. So if you've got anything you want to hear, any help you need. Any pickem for college/pros whatever, let me know and I'll give you my two cents.

So... how did everyone else do this weekend? How many winner we got on GHL?!

Week 16 PreGame

I know a lot of you are in the championships. So I want you all to stay alert. There is a lot of late breaking news right now.

Pay close attention to Vincent Jackson and Ben Roethlisberger.
With no Big Ben, I have to move both Wallace and Brown down the charts a bit. Heath Miller would get a boost, and I like all Steelers RBs a bit more.

Watch out for Felix Jones and Roy Helu. Both were limited this week, if they practiced at all. And both of them have backups that people are talking about.
I expect both Jones and Helu to play, but you have be mindful that they could miss time and make way for their backups, Morris and Royster, respectively.

In other RB news, Chris Johnson is expected to play, I think his numbers will look a bit more like early 2011 than late 2011.
Michael Bush has the questionable tag on him. Id expect him to go as well, but read up on him before kickoff.
Beanie Wells is expected to play. I'm not very worried about him.
Marion Barber is out. Kahlil Bell will be getting the start and most of the work. Keep in mind that they are playing against the Packers, and that the Bears have little to no offense to speak of. That in mind, I would start bell this week depending on your other players. Especially in PPR. I don't expect any fireworks from the Bears here though.

At WR, AJ Green is probable. Should be played in all formats.
Mario Manningham is doubtful, which will bump Cruz up in my book. Not helping Hakeem Nicks any though.
Deion Branch is again a game time decision. I don't think he'll go. Welker (also questionable) should be fine though. Branch's injury helps out Aaron Hernandez again, and, dare I say, Chad Ochocinco.

Anquan Boldin is out. Bumping up Torrey Smith and Ed Dickson. Honestly can't tell you offhand who their third receiver is, but if you are asking that question... you are probably not in the championship game. I expect Baltimore to stick to the run though against a miserable run defense.
Greg Jennings again out.
Jacoby Ford out, giving Heyward-Bey a bit more love. Denarius Moore should also play though.
And no Anthony Fasano or Jake Ballard.

Week 16: Houston vs. Indianapolis Matchup Predictions

I don’t think I’m really going out on a limb when I pick Houston to win here. And I don’t think I’m that crazy when I say that you are probably not in the finals if you have any of Indianapolis’s players are in your starting lineup.
So, really, besides being bored at work, there is little reason for me to be writing this post. But I do what I want.
Indy surprised us all last week, due largely in part to an 80 yard run set off by Curtis Painter accidentally blocking somebody. Literally. What the tape, he did not do that on purpose, he just got in the way. I don’t see it happening again, and, frankly, if I were a Colts fan, I wouldn’t want another win. They have the number one pick, and they should probably try holding on to it.
That doesn’t mean that players won’t be trying, I just really don’t think that anyone on this team is really good enough to start for fantasy unless you are crazy deep. Then only Pierre Garcon is really worth considering.
Houston has locked the playoffs. I’m sure that they would bench their starters, if they could… but T.J. Yates is the third stringer, so really, he needs the practice. Andre Johnson will not be the Andre Johnson that we all know and love until Schaub is back. Arian Foster deliver a hell of a pounding though. I’m also going to say that I do expect them to sit Johnson and Foster at some point to avoid injury before the playoffs. And, in the event that Arian Foster does sit, Ben Tate could actually have a productive night. That is a big if though.

Start them: Arian Foster, Pierre Garcon, Andre Johnson, Owen Daniels, Neil Rackers, HOU Defense
If you must: Ben Tate, Reggie WayneSit them: Curtis Painter, Joseph Addai, Backup HOU receivers, IND DefenseSleepers: T.J. Yates, Donald Brown, Jacob Tamme

My Championship Matchup

A little disappointed that I only made one Championship game this year, but that’s just the way it goes. Anyways, before the first game of the week kicks off tonight, I wanted to show you guys my lineup and the team that I am going up against to win it all.
My Team:
QB: Drew Brees
RB: Rashard Mendenhall
RB: Mike Tolbert
RB/WR: Marques Colston
WR: Darrius Heyward-Bey
WR: DeSean Jackson
WR/TE: Calvin Johnson
TE: Anthony Fasano
DEF: Houston Texans
Special Teams: Baltimore Ravens
Bench:
Joe Flacco
Kahlil Bell
Ryan Grant
Earl Bennett
Steve Breaston
Andre Caldwell
Eric Decker
Denver Broncos Defense

My Opponent:
Cam Newton
LeSean McCoy
Willis McGahee
Vincent Jackson
Steve Smith
Demaryius Thomas
Brandon Pettigrew
Jason Witten
Pittsburgh Steelers Defense
Cincinnati Bengals S/T

I feel that I’ve got him edged out a little bit at QB because of our scoring system.
He has me hands down at the RB position. I feel like I might need to gamble by taking Tolbert out and trying my luck with Kahlil Bell. Thoughts?
I think I have the advantage when it comes to receiver. Colston and Johnson have been pulling me through.
Both of his tight ends are better than mine.
And our defense and special teams are a draw.

This year, he has about 10 more points per game than me (in a league where 200-215 points is the norm). What do you think? Any moves I should make? Do I stand a chance? We both are coming in with some pretty damn good matchup. Could be a high scoring affair. Gonna come down to luck in my opinion. Just wish I had any luck at the RB position. Lost two guys to injury early in the year.

Week 16 Fantasy Football Position Rankings

Hey everybody. I’ve been getting a lot of love on the site and on Twitter. Looks like a pretty high percentage of us got into the playoffs, and a great amount of people are into the finals.

I know that in two of my leagues, the championship game will be played this weekend. In my expert league, It is me going up against Fans Fantasy Football. Later this week, I will post our lineups and let you guys help me decide what the best moves are for me.

In the league that Jordan and I are in, I failed to make the playoffs, but Jordan has surged and will be playing in the championship game against a fantasy newcomer. The championship round will last two weeks from week 16-17.

And my other league just wrapped up last week. This was the league where my two starting linebackers, Adrian Peterson and Matt Forte all went down in the last few weeks. I managed to end up 13-1 in the regular season, but only got third and won my money back.

Anyways, lots of exciting championship posts to look forward to this week. And I’ll be taking some polls and asking for feedback, so please stay tuned for that.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at the position rankings for Week 16, and good luck to everyone in the Championship game!

Week 15 Fantasy Football Pick'em and Predictions

Alright. So. We're winding down in the season. We should really have a grip on all of the teams by now. But, of course, the NFL despises consistency and the thought of anyone being correct and throws a good amount of curveballs each and every week.

So here come some explanations on the games where Jordan and I don't see eye to eye.

Redskins vs. Giants: I'd be lying if I told you that I made this pick mostly out of hope that the Giants losing gets Dallas one step closer to a playoff birth. (Really, I shouldn't be hoping that, because I know that making the playoffs really just means that we are going to get absolutely embarrassed on national television again, likely by the Falcons who should be sitting in the 5 seed.) But I digress. The Redskins showed off their offense against New England last week, in a game that would have went to overtime if Santana Moss could catch. Giants looked sloppy in the win over Dallas, and Redskins can exploit it if their defense is up to the challenge. Giants are the favorites at home, but Redskins could be the spoiler here. Hopefully.

Lions vs. Raiders: I don't see where Jordan is coming from on this one really. Palmer is coming off a four interception day last week. The team is hurting. And, while the Lions are also losing momentum, they will be getting Suh back. Effectively putting more pressure on Palmer, which causes turnovers. Lions are still technically fighting for a playoff spot, meaning that this is a game they need the win on. And seeing the Packers handle Oakland with ease last week, Lions should roll.

Ravens vs. Chargers: I've got the Chargers here. They are hot as of late. Looks like all the team needed was the return of Malcom Floyd for Philip Rivers and company to get out of their funk. Ravens have the tough run defense, but could have trouble against the aerial attack that includes Gates and Vincent Jackson. Ray Rice is going to have to be a start yet again, as the Ravens passing game is far from spectacular this year. We've seen the Chargers go down a lot this year, but they don't want Tebow winning the division any more than I do.

Steelers vs. 49ers: Pretty simple here. I don't think Big Ben plays. They are borderline a sure thing for a playoff spot. I think they rest him this week as he is far from 100%. Mendenhall is facing the best run defense in the nation, and I have a funny feeling that AARP-member Charlie Batch won't be able to exploit their secondary weaknesses.

Here's the picks.

Week 15 Sleepers and Pickups

And the playoffs keep rolling along. Awkward week last week. Lots of stars putting up pretty awful performances. A handful of no-names came out of nowhere.
Overall, the pick-ups here are pretty simple. When we get into the playoffs, I am far less likely to count on sleepers, so I don’t have any pickups for that either.
Basically, if you want to get anyone off of free agency, you are looking for great matchups, or injury fill-ins.
Biggest injury of the week has to go to DeMarco Murray. Felix Jones filled in and had a decent day. But I think that, for the most part, that we because the Giants did not game plan for him. The Cowboys have another good matchup though as they face the Bucs, who just gave up four touchdowns to Maurice Jones-Drew.
If Felix is still floating in free agency, I think he is a must add. He will be a great play for the next two weeks, facing the poor run defenses of Tampa Bay and Philadelphia. He will also be working with fullback Fiammetta, who has been largely credited with Murray’s success. The Cowboys just signed ex-Patriot Sammy Morris to the team. He could get some runs, and steal the goal line work, but I would not add him unless you are in a mind-blowingly deep league.

Wanna Play Me?

Hey guys,

So, I've been using a site for the past few weeks and I've been having a great time with it. It's called FanDuel.

Basically, you go there, deposit a few bucks and play one-on-one matchups or enter 5-10 man leagues that last for that weekend of Football. You can enter free leagues, or wager anywhere from $1 to way way more.

You have a $60K bank and fill up positions based on who you think is going to kill it that particular week.

Enter your players, watch the games, they tabulate your score, and if you win the matchup, you win the bet and the money.

Anyways... If you follow this link http://www.fanduel.com/?invitedby=godhateslosers&cnl=da and deposit 10 dollars, then we should each get some free money and we can play against each other.

So, follow the link, log in, deposit, and search for me (my screenname is godhateslosers, obviously.) and challenge me to a game of one-on-one. (I will play a few money games, but I'm very poor, so we might have to play free. Sorry)

You got what it takes to beat me at my own game?

Week 14 Fantasy Football Pick'em and Predictions

For the past few weeks I've been picking up the pace. Been basing my picks a lot on the Thursday night game actually. Seahawks beat the Eagles last week, I picked a handful of upsets and they paid off.

This Thursday, the Steelers barely escaped the Browns of all teams. This could point to another week of upsets if I'm going off the same strategy, but I'm not feeling very upsetty this week.

I'm normally scared when they look straightforward, but the only big gun I can see going down is the Patriots of all teams. Redskins passing game and emergence of Helu might be enough. And Brady and the Pats (mostly the secondary) only got past the un-undefeated Colts by seven.

Here's the picks.

Week 14 Fantasy Football Position Rankings

Ah, my favorite time of week. Time to get started on the position rankings. Hope everyone made it into their playoffs and are not going at it for the chance to be the champion.
My strategy in the playoffs doesn’t change much from the regular season. But for those of you who have spent the last few weeks making big gambles to get off the bubble and into the playoffs, now is the time too cool down a bit and focus on consistency.
A home run here and there is a good thing. But I’d rather start a guy who is guaranteed to get me 8 points a week than go for the guy that could end up with either 15 or zero.
Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson and Andre Johnson are the biggest names out. But we are likely to see the return of Jeremy Maclin and Miles Austin. Keep an eye out, because there are a lot of questionable and probables out there.
Any questions for GHL... you know what to do.
